Views of the Industry from Paul Fisher, SC Magazine

March 16, 2010

Earlier this week I was lucky enough to nab SC Magazine’s editor, Paul Fisher (@SCeditor), for a quick chat about his views on the information security industry.

Here are the notes from our conversation.

Countdown2Infosecurity: What is your favourite piece of technology?

Paul Fisher: Mobile phones, particularly smart phones. I’m interested in all different kinds.

CD2I: What’s hot in IT security this year?

PF: The Cloud, unfortunately. It’s a bit hackneyed now, as everyone is talking about it.

CD2I: Who is worth listening to (on information security issues)?

PF: Adrian Seccombe, former chief information security officer at Eli Lilly and current computing lecturer at the University of Surrey.

I also listen to Uri Rivner,  Head of New Technologies and Consumer Identity Protection at RSA.

CD2I: What is your favourite blog?

PF: I follow TechCrunch, although that’s not really a blog. I also follow Engadget, particularly its editor-in-chief, Joshua Topolsky (@joshuatopolsky)

CD2I: What do you think is the most important development in IT security to date?

PF: Acceptance of consumerization among senior security professionals. It’s becoming increasingly accepted to allow consumer devices into the enterprise, although there is still a long way to go.

Stay tuned! On Fridayof this week, we’ll blog about the newly created SC Vision, of which Paul is the host.
