ExecEvent BIG Event Speaking Opportunities via Emerging Vendors Showcase and Big Data Startup Focus

June 15, 2012

By Olivia Shannon, @olivia_at_o

Technology networking and business development event ExecEvent has announced some exciting new speaking and networking opportunities for vendors of storage, virtualization, security, cloud and data centre technology.

At next month’s BIG Event in Santa Clara, California (July 10-11), there will be two separate showcases – one for emerging vendors in the data world, and the other for “big data companies you should know about in 2012.”   Each company will present for 10-minutes, followed by 5 minutes of Q&A before an audience of potential partners, VCs, press and analysts. Participating vendors are eligible for consideration for an Execullence Award for Best of Show, Most Disruptive Technology or Coolest New Technology. Judges for the Execullence Awards include representatives from companies like Intel, IBM, EMC, NetApp, HP, HDS as well as selected venture capitalists and financiers.

The BIG Event is the one time in 2012 that ExecEvent will bring together executives from across the storage spectrum in the U.S.  The agenda highlights include speeches with a panel of Silicon Valley VCs, an open networking session, a corporate development panel and sales workshop.

There is also this mysterious teaser from the ExecEvent website: “We’ll have a VERY special guest speaker at our ‘Pre’ reception on Monday early evening.  Please try to attend – you’ll kick yourself for missing this.”

ExecEvent will take place July 10-11 in Santa Clara, CA.   There will be opportunities for informal networking in both “pre” and “post” cocktail receptions. Registration is $975.  See The BIG Event Registration for more information.

In order to be considered for the emerging vendors showcase:

  1. Complete and submit the Emerging Vendor Showcase Application (or simply send an email outlining why you think you are interesting and should be chosen)
  2. Register 2 or more attendees – the Big Event registration

Meet Peter Judge, Editor of TechWeekEurope UK

April 3, 2012

By Rose Ross (@Rose_at_O)

Q. Hello Peter.  Would you start by telling us a little about your professional self and your publication?

I have been a journalist for 25 years, aaargh.  To my surprise, I now find myself editor of TechWeekEurope, a proper news site which, after three years, continues to go from strength to strength.  TWE is for technology decision makers.  Our aim is to examine the business implications of IT developments.  As you might imagine, that means we are particularly interested in mobile, security, the public sector, the cloud, and sustainable IT.

Q. What’s hot in IT security?

Erm, can I phone a friend on this one? Eric Doyle has been doing some great articles on this, while Tom Brewster has just arrived from IT Pro and will be covering the security beat too.  But for me, the answer is: activism and politics.  These two factors mean that every business is a potential target even if there is no obvious reason for it to be a target. Cloudcamp London – Goes Big Data with some Infosec twists for one night only!

January 16, 2012

By Rose Ross, AKA @Rose_at_0

I’ve just blogged about the upcoming CloudCamp London on Big Data for www.countdown2storageexpo.com but wanted to shout out one of the lightning talks which will make this event of interest to the Infosecurity world too! Full post here: http://countdown2storageexpo.wordpress.com/2012/01/16/cloudcamp-london-goes-big-data-for-one-night-only/

Chris Swan from UBS will be giving a lightning talk on “Security Information and Event Management – a big data problem. A look at how big data tools are being used for security monitoring”.

I have chatted with and listened to Chris before at Cloudcamps in the past and he’ll no doubt have some Infosec pearls of wisdom on Big Data to share. If Big Data is starting to appear on your Infosec radar it is definitely worth getting yourself down to the Crypt on the evening of 25th Jan. And as always to round off the evening beer and pizza. A perfect Cloudcamp evening for sure! See you there!
