The 451 Group Announces 3rd Acquisition of 2013 @The451Group

The 451 Group (@The451Group) has announced its third acquisition of 2013 – Applied Velocity Labs. According to the press release, Applied Velocity Labs is a Charlotte, NC-based strategy, advisory and research firm and the developer of a proprietary digital infrastructure strategy framework. It is hoped that the acquisition will “strengthen The 451 Group’s thought leadership around digital infrastructure.”

Martin McCarthy, The 451 Group’s Chairman and CEO,  commented, “The proprietary Applied Velocity Labs strategic framework will broaden our capabilities and expertise, helping enterprises transform their technology operations to support the evolution of the digital enterprise.”

With the Applied Velocity Labs acquisition, Tony Bishop, founder of Applied Velocity Labs, becomes  The 451 Group’s chief strategy officer and co-head of 451 Advisors.

This news marks The 451 Group’s third acquisition since the start of 2013. In January, The 451 Group announced the acquisition of Boston-based mobile research firm Yankee Group (@YankeeGroup), and early in February, The 451 Group announced acquisition of Tech:Touchstone (@techtouchstone), a UK-based events company.

Yankee Group will operate as an independent division of The 451 Group, with Yankee Group’s mobile researchers joining the teams at 451 Research and The Uptime Institute “to provide thought leadership, advisory, data and certification services on the evolution of Digital Infrastructure.” Terry Waters, CEO of Yankee Group, will continue as CEO of Yankee Group, reporting directly to Martin  McCarthy, who will also serve as Yankee Group Chairman.

Meanwhile, Tech:Touchstone will  become part of The 451 Group Events, and Tech:Touchstone founder Simeon Turner, a former Gartner executive, will become the managing director of 451 Group Events, reporting to The 451 Group’s chief marketing officer, Christopher Hill. The 451 Group plans to expand its events to cover Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe and other geographical areas.
